Overview

Oceanhouse Media has created an incredible collection of Dr. Seuss’s short stories in one app that will entertain and delight children of all ages. With silly characters and rhyming stories we love from Dr. Seuss in addition to the illustrations straight from the books, this app is one children will enjoy again and again.

Features include:

  • 8 Classic stories
  • Text highlighting
  • Narration and voice record options

Quality

Oceanhouse Media always offers high quality story book apps with clear graphics and animation and this app is no different. This Dr. Seuss collection offers wonderful illustrations straight from the book with a bit of animation to help keep children engaged. The music and sound effects bring each story to life and the narrator also offers fun character voices that children will enjoy. The narration options for each story also offers parents and children an opportunity to record their own narration of the stories.

Education

Like many digital books, Dr. Seuss’s Short Story Collection offers narration and text highlighting to assist little readers as they learn new words and practice their reading skills. The “read to me” option allows children to read to themselves and if they happen to get stuck on a particular word, they can simply touch the word and the narrator will say it aloud. Children can also tap various illustrations and watch as the word appears as the narrator reads it aloud for more learning opportunities.

Another great option is the voice record feature. This feature gives children the opportunity to practice reading aloud which is great for early readers. Parents may also choose to record their own voice as they read the story, so children can listen to it later.

Entertainment

While this collection of short stories does not have any additional games or activities, the stories themselves are very entertaining. With titles like “I Can Lick 30 Tigers Today” and “Too Many Daves”, children will not only enjoy the short stories, but also the enthusiastic character voices by the narrator.

Value

While the current price may be a bit much for what some parents typically spend on digital books, there are a few things to consider. For just under eight dollars, there are 8 high quality, fully narrated, Dr. Seuss stories with voice record options and other features. This averages out to be about a dollar per story which is a great deal.

Children will also enjoy the variety of stories included in this one app and for those that love Dr. Seuss, they will likely read these stories over and over again. For the price you would spend on one hard cover book, this is a great value.

Child Friendliness

Dr. Seuss Collection of Short Stories is not only full of great stories, but it is also very easy to use. The “read to me” option allows pre-readers to enjoy the story as they follow along and the “read it myself” option allows early readers to read on their own. Parents with children of various ages will certainly enjoy the flexibility of this app along with the voice record options.

In addition to being user friendly this app is also very safe to use. There are no social media links or in app advertisements to be concerned about. One detail parents will want to be aware of is the link to additional apps on the main page. If children tap the “Apps” button they will be directed to a list of best selling apps and may end up in the App Store. Even with that one detail, this app is still great for kids of all ages.
