Overview

Peekaboo Trick or Treat is one of our featured apps in the Halloween Apps for Kids 2014 post.

It is a really cute, yet simple app for young children that will help to increase their vocabulary through a variety of classic Halloween characters dressed up for trick or treating. With an easy to use interface and great illustrations this educational app is appealing and fun!

Features include:

  • 14 Halloween characters and words
  • Cute theme
  • 2 Narrator options

Quality

Peekaboo Trick or Treat proves that even simple apps can include high quality images, animation, and lots of fun. This app includes whimsical interactive illustrations that include various Halloween characters like a witch, gorilla, werewolf, monster etc. These images are accompanied by eery music and sound effects that are great for young children as they are not too scary. With two narration options (child or adult voice) this app allows for slight customization as well.

Education

The main educational aspect of this app is to increase the vocabulary for children. As users open the haunted house doors to see how is lurking behind, they are greeted by a fun character as the word is posted and read. Not only does this help children learn new words, but they can also associate the various animations with the written word to practice their reading skills as well.

Entertainment

Peekaboo Trick or Treat is full of animated characters that young children will love. After they have opened the door for all 14 characters, they get to see the characters in a group dancing together. The images and illustrations are the most entertaining for younger children as they watch these silly creatures come to life. Parents have the option of selecting the “regular” play option or the “loop” that will continue cycling the characters through over and over again for hours of fun. While the set-up is fairly simple and aimed at younger children it might be nice to add another activity or game to add more entertainment value.

Value

Priced at under two dollars this app seems to be priced well though it would be nice to have an additional activity to add a bit more value. All-in-all parents will find their money is well spent as children giggle with delight as they learn new vocabulary words with this cute app.

Child Friendliness

Peekaboo Trick or Treat is aimed at young children so the set-up is very simple to use. As the spooky mansion door rattles, children must simply tap the door to open it so they can see who is hiding behind it. This simple tap and touch functioning is perfect for young children as it doesn’t require instructions at all.

There are no in-app purchases or social media links to be concerned with. The only advertisement is for additional apps by the developer and it is protected on the main page so parents can rest assured knowing this app is safe for little ones.
