This week my family fell in love with Tapikeo HD, an app for the iPad that lets children enjoy fun slideshows and even make their own for an awesome mix of family fun.
At first glance, Tapikeo didn’t knock my socks off. There were a few collections of pictures with recorded tracks called grids for me to show the little ones. But the deeper we got into the app the more it became blatantly obvious: this app rocks.
Not only are there several beautiful grids with music, educational lessons, songs and more that can be downloaded from Tapikeo’s site for free with the $.99 purchase of the app, it actually lets your family create your own grid stories. Use photos and record your own sounds to build short storybooks, flash cards for learning, recordings of fun songs, or anything else you and your little one can dream up.
In my family we had a ball making our very own bedtime story about the dog. The kids were so excited and got to star in their own scenes. We had way too much fun playing with this app. It’s going to be in rotation for a very long time around our house.
It’s also great for sharing. Tapikeo story grids can be exported via email. Unfortunately they can only be opened by the Tapikeo app, but it’s still an amazing function with a lot of potential.
But is it Toddler Proof?
One of my favorite features is the child lock on this app. A simple touch of a button keeps the kiddos from accidentally deleting or downloading any more grids, or changing any of your settings. Unlocking the app is a bit more difficulty. You have to tap the same tiny spot five times very rapidly (and I do mean VERY) to get access back. That’s going to be really hard for a toddler to do.
There are no ads in this app, and all the content is 100 percent child friendly. I couldn’t be happier with the app’s approach. It’s the stuff that sighs of relief are made of.
Bottom line
Tapikeo is an extremely affordable app that your family is going to love. Go get it.
