It’s time for another “Best of the Best”, this time for math apps. The math apps that I am looking for need to be focused on elementary school aged children who are already familiar with numbers 1-20. These math apps include:

  • addition / subtraction / multiplication apps
  • measurement apps
  • fractions / percentages apps
  • learning time apps
  • learning money apps

I would like to nominate my math app called “fun farm patterning”. It is geared for children aged 5-8, created by a 20 year veteran school teacher. Patterning is threaded throughout the Primary School Curriculum, and is an essential pre-requisite for algebraic thinking. Check it out on the itunes store for 99cents! Our kid-friendly farm animals, bright colours, positive reinforcers and real world video examples will delight your child while helping them sharpen their problem-solving skills!

  2. I would like to nominate my ipad app Chisenbop.
    http://bitly.com/fTv7jU

My mom signed me up for a class in Chisenbop when I was 10 – I loved it and have been using the Chisenbop counting method ever since (more than 30 years!). I think Chisenbop is a great and fun counting method and would like to spread the word! I created the ipad app to demonstrate this method for a local elementary school.

    Thanks,
    Laura

  3. Hi all,

We developed a lot of educational games for children: http://ar-entertainment.net/learning/ipad.html
Here are the one that can be the best of the best math apps:

First, we develop a game around Mimi the monkey, who will help children to count and to make simple additions.
    for iPhone: http://bit.ly/igst56
    for iPad: http://bit.ly/hjJmUh

To learn tables, we develop a game “Learning tables is fun”, with different difficulty levels.
    iPhone version: http://bit.ly/dLAuY7
    iPad version: http://bit.ly/hwNF3h

We also have a “Learning to tell time is fun” application.
    for iPad: http://bit.ly/gC5AET
    for iPhone: http://bit.ly/gq5Xnb

What could be the best educational game, the one that my son used to learn his lessons, is “My first weighing exercises”. This one has no equivalent on the AppStore. In this game, kids can learn how to manipulate a scale, and they will count and count and and and add, unconsciously…
    iPad version: http://bit.ly/gUchNm
    iPhone version: http://bit.ly/dKgFoN

    Thanks for your attention.
Good luck to chose between all the math apps.

    Regards,
    Alexandre

  8. I would like to nominate ‘DotToDot Numbers and Letters’. This app helps children practise number counting and multiplication times tables in a fun way through dot to dot number puzzles. In each game a number appears next to each dot. As kids join the dots together (in the right sequence) a picture is created on the screen. There’s a wide range of settings in the Parentzone section so parents can adjust the level to suit the specific needs of their child. As their child progresses the app can move in step with them. This means that it’s also great value as it offers years of play at only $1.99! As well as teaching numbers you also have the option of changing the numbers to letters so kids can learn the alphabet too!

I really like Rocket Math, I use it frequently in my classroom. It lets kids work on a lot of different math skills such as time, odds/evens, shapes, and lots more. To start kids work on addition and subtraction. There is also some problem solving/creativity involved as they have to build a rocket that will get off the ground.
