Review Summary:

Defend your side of the screen by protecting it from scorpions, tumbleweeds, and other enemies in Showdown at the Oasis.

Overview

Showdown at the Oasis takes the idea of Plants vs. Zombies and turns it into a game involving cacti, scorpions, and other items found in the desert. Can you strategically place your defenses to knock out the enemies? It’s a bit tricky at first, but the game allows kids to experience success.

Features include:

  • Ability to knock out enemies
  • New features unlocked at every level
  • Fun sound effects
  • Easy-to-play format

Quality

There’s nothing fancy about this app. The game takes place on a large grid. Players must protect the left side of the screen by strategically placing defenses. Enemies, such as scorpions and tumbleweeds, come in from the right. Each defense and enemy has a life bar to let players know which way the battle is likely to go. A sun statue can be placed to produce stars to earn extra points. However, if that statue is destroyed, there’s no other way to earn additional points until the next round. The game moves a bit slowly in the initial rounds, but it’s still fun. In the settings section, users can control the level of the background music and sound effects.

Education

This app is not being rated for education.

Entertainment

While the game is simple, it is still fun. After each level, new surprises are unlocked. These come in the form of either new enemies or new defenses. With each new level, players also start with more points. This makes it easier to use more of the features of the game.

Value

For those who like Plants vs. Zombies, Showdown at the Oasis offers a similar experience. It’s not as fancy, but it does have fewer ads and it’s just as fun to play.

Child Friendliness

While the app does have ads, they’re not very prevalent. In fact, players may get through multiple rounds of the game without seeing them. When ads do appear, they offer advantages in the game. The app does not have any in-app purchases or other negative features.
