Crying

Crying is your baby’s way of communicating with you. If your baby starts crying, it’s because the tiny human is tired, hungry, needs a diaper change, or feels ill. That’s pretty much it. Pick your baby up whenever he or she starts crying and see if feeding or changing is in order, if it’s time for a nap, etc. and remember to walk around. Something about walking around with the baby in your arms is a key to no more tears!

It’s also important to understand the difference between crying and screaming. A screaming baby is one who is red-faced, making high-pitched noises, and sounds like he or she is in pain. Crying babies are easily soothed, while screaming babies mean something is wrong. Call your pediatrician and if the professional says there’s nothing wrong…find a new pediatrician. Screaming babies are not something to ignore.

Diaper Fittings

Want to ensure diapers actually fit your baby? Do so by always checking the weight guidelines on the diaper boxes. If your baby’s weight is beyond the box’s guidelines, move on to the next size. Also keep in mind diaper tabs that barely cross into the colorful strip are too small, as are those that cause baby’s waste to go up the back and, um, everywhere else. Yuck.

Onesie Hack

Did your baby have a waste-tastic mess that got all over the onesie? You could cut the onesie off of the baby, but you could also use the button tabs on the clothing’s shoulders to remove your baby from the mess. It’s easy and it allows the onesie to be cleaned for further use. Cutting your baby out of a onesie every time there’s an accident gets expensive fast!

Cloth Vs. Disposable Diapers

You may find cloth diapers are better for you and your baby, or you may want to stick with disposables. It’s really about what’s comfortable, but if you do go the disposable route, buy in bulk. Babies go through diapers crazy-quick, so the more you have, the better off you’ll be.
