Where The Wild Things Are

The fantastical tale written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak is all about young Max being sent to bed without supper for acting out. His bedroom proves to be a portal to the land of wild things, or large beasts who revere him as king. However, Max begins to miss his family, and comes home to find his mom has saved him a hot dinner.

The Snowy Day

The Snowy Day concerns Peter, a child finding his way through snow-laden New York City. The Ezra Jack Keats classic was ahead of its time for featuring a black protagonist.

Goodnight, Moon

Goodnight, Moon by Margaret Wise Brown is hailed as the ultimate bedtime story thanks to repetitive cadences and beautiful illustrations that help your children drift off into the land of dreams.

Little Bear

No children’s book collection is complete without Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarek. The aforementioned Maurice Sendak created the illustrations for the timeless tale about a lil bear who wants to spend time with his absent father.

The Giving Tree

Shel Silverstein’s poignant story about a tree who gives all to a rather selfish little-boy-turned man is a fantastic story about generosity.

The True Story of the Three Little Pigs

This witty, ironic story by Jon Scieszka is told from the point of view of the wolf–the wolf from the original Three Little Pigs story. You kids will laugh finding out what “really” happened to this put-upon mammal!
