There are lots of music apps for kids out there but some are just dry, dull and boring. At TheiPhoneMom we decided to pull together some of our favorite Music Apps for Kids! Our roundup of some of the best childrens music apps out there!
Based on the hit PBS KIDS series, Peg + Cat Big Gig is a wonderful children’s music app geared towards children ages 3 through 6 years old. Come along and join Peg + Cat as they jam out with all sorts of instruments. Kids can pick an instrument and play songs across different worlds that are featured in the show, such as: the Farm, Pirate Island, the Magic Forest, and even the Purple Planet! While playing simple melodies, kids will also use their preschool math skills as they identify numbers, count up and down by ones and twos, add by one, and repeat patterns. This app features 12 different songs from the show, including the favorite theme song, “Problem Solved”. There is also a great free play mode in which kids can create their own melodies, as well as a sing-along mode with lyrics on the screen. If you have a Peg + Cat fan in your house, this app is a must-have!
Watch and Find – VeggieTales Silly Song Favorites is a great music app for kids because of its wonderful collection of videos direct from the official VeggieTales archives. Come along with Larry and Bob and enjoy singing along to all your favorite silly songs, such as: The Hairbrush Song, The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything, His Cheeseburger, Pizza Angel, Happy Toothday and many more! Not only does the app includes lots of fun video clips, it also features object recognition game play where kids are asked to find or spot things in the videos. A great find for any VeggieTales fan!
Another great children’s music app comes from Toca Boca, the Toca Band app is the perfect musical introduction for kids ages 2 and older. With Toca Band, little ones can help the characters get ready for their big concert as they help mix beats and sounds together. The app encourages kids to explore music as they create different types of sounds. There are 16 cool characters to choose from, each with their unique sound and musical rhythm. Kids can simply drag and drop characters onto the stage to get the music flowing, then move them around and switch up the beat! There are 48 sound loops that can be put together in lots of fun combinations. Be sure to check this app out if you have a little one that is ready to start exploring with music and sound!
Featured by Apple in the “Best New Apps & Games” Kids Category, Kids Music Factory is a great way to teach children how to play actual music and real songs. Kids will learn the basics first, the do-re-mi’s. Next, kids can learn to play popular children’s songs in Keyboard Mode, such as: Itsy Bitsy Spider, Wheels on the Bus, Mary Had a Little Lamb and many more. A great educational app that combines learning the alphabet with music, Jamaroos Musical ABCs is an engaging experience for younger children. There are 26 vividly illustrated animal performances, one for each letter of the alphabet, each letter character plays original music with their own special instrument. Kids will learn 104 vocabulary words throughout the app, mostly dealing with animals and music. The app is filled with movable and stackable icons that illustrate words (416 total icons), which is great for strengthening fine motor skills. Proper phonetics is also emphasized. This app would be a great introduction to the alphabet and music for any child!
