Quality

While the puzzles in this app may be good for improving spatial and visual memory skills, the quality could stand to be improved. This is evident from the opening screen where the developer’s logo cuts off in the middle of the word. It is also evident when adding a new user. When trying to add a new user, the user name bar often gets stuck on the screen, making it nearly impossible to read the instructions and complete additional activities. The app is otherwise fairly easy to navigate. Tapping on the play button reveals the different categories of puzzles and completing each puzzle is fairly straightforward. A settings screen allows users to control aspects of the puzzles to make them more challenging.

Education

The app consists of a series of dot and box puzzles designed to improve visual and spatial memory skills. Each puzzle requires users to recreate the image in the space on the right-hand side of the screen. In the settings section, users have the option to determine how long the image on the left-hand side of the screen is visible (5, 10, 15, 20, or 30 seconds) and to turn off the dot or block outline to make the puzzle harder to solve. An info button provides an overview of how the app improves visual and spatial memory skills and each option on the settings screen includes its own info button to help users understand the changes each option makes.

Entertainment

The app is full of a variety of puzzles to challenge users and they really do increase in difficulty. While the activities themselves are not very flashy or high-energy games, they are still somewhat entertaining to solve. The app also allows users to turn on a bird game which appears after successfully solving five puzzles. The game adds something different to the app, but isn’t any more entertaining than the puzzles themselves.

Value

When they download the free version, users get a good overview of the style of puzzles available in the app. An in-app purchase allows users to unlock all of the levels within the app.

Child Friendliness

All of the information users need is contained within the app and there are no external links to take kids away from the app. There is an in-app purchase to allow users to unlock all levels of the game and it is not protected by a parental block, so parents without a password set up may find their kids unlocking the levels without their knowledge.
