Super Harry’s Rotten Luck, by PicPocket Books, is a sweet and humorous story about a boy named Harry who experiences a week’s worth of mishaps. By the end of the week, after landing in a slippery, slimy puddle, being almost grabbed by a gorilla and having a bird plop poo on him, Harry decides he’s had enough and he becomes determined to change things.
This uplifting story would be a good read any time of day, even bedtime. In addition to the beautiful illustrations, the story contains enough sounds and interactive objects to keep the kids entertained. Narration and word highlighting are optional and can be switched on or off at any point during the story. While narration and word highlighting are desirable features for beginning readers, it would be helpful if those items could be repeated by touching the words again.
The app does not contain much in the way of navigational features. The only method to move through the pages is to swipe page by page. At the very end of the app, a small button is available for returning to the beginning.
A Parental Notification is available in the iTunes description; the app does not collect personal data, does not contain in-app ads, in-app purchases, or social media buttons. It does contain links to additional apps by PicPocket Books. The links are located after the end of the story.
