24×7 digital’s newest app offering, TeachMe: Math Facts 1.0, is a great choice for kids who need to improve or practice their fact fluency. Users are given the choice of the four operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division – and each set of facts is divided by group (+ 7’s or -9’s, for example). This feature is especially helpful for additional practice of specific fact groups to improve fluency. The user is able to progress through the fact sets, earning a gold trophy and coins when all problems in the set are completed correctly. The problems are presented flashcard style, a readily recognizable quizzing method, which lessens the chance of user misunderstanding.
If the user is unable to complete the fact set correctly, redirection is given through additional practice on the facts missed. The app also times the input of answers as the user progresses and provides additional practice on facts that the user took a long time to answer. This feature helps to improve a user’s automaticity by encouraging him or her to input answers quickly from memory rather than taking the time to count to determine answers. Once the additional practice is complete, the user is given the chance to try again to complete the round.
This app isn’t strictly rote practice, though. There’s plenty of fun to be had in the nearby neighborhood of TeachTown! TeachTown’s neighborhood includes the school, where students complete the fact practice, as well as other areas designed to allow students to use the coins they’ve earned.
At the TeachTown home, users can spend their coins on items to build and decorate their very own house. At the Photobooth, users can play with photos and even take a photos of themselves to personalize the fun. In the Shape Store, users can buy “elastic” shapes to twist and manipulate. The Fish Store allows users to visit their own virtual aquarium, and the Art Store unleashes their creative side, giving them options to create fun art scenes. These TeachTown options keep users engaged and encourage them to return to the School to continue practice and earn additional coins.
At an introductory price of only $0.99, this app is certainly worthy of adding to your collection.
The abundance of options available keeps kids interested in continuing practice, and the easy to use interface reduces the need for parental help. TeachMe: Math Facts 1.0 is an app that both entertains and educates.
