Tiny Farm – Animals, Tractors and Adventures! App Review
What will kids find when they head down to the farm today? Tiny Farm – Animals, Tractors and Adventures! introduces kids to life on the farm through a fun seek and find format. From planting a garden and scaring away the crows to repairing a broken down tractor, kids will get to experience many different aspects of farm life. Best of all – they get to do it on their terms, playing around with whatever appeals to them in the moment.
- Three main scenes
- Sound controls
- A key with items to discover
- Interactive graphics
- Hidden surprises
The app is comprised of three main scene. Each scene has different secrets for kids to discover. As kids tap around, the app’s music and sound effects can get a little loud, but the settings screen allows them to turn off the music and the sound. For those that want to hear the sounds, but don’t want to be overwhelmed, there’s also a volume limit setting that can be turned on and off. As kids explore the scenes, the size of the images may seem a bit small for adult fingers, but it’s the perfect size for toddler and preschooler fingers as they tap around to see what they can discover.
While there’s nothing inherently educational about the app, developers encourage parents to get involved and ask questions about what’s going on in the scenes. For example, why is a boy hiding in the hay? What makes the hen’s eggs change color when they go through the tube? What happens on the farm at night? With so much going on in the app, there are plenty of stories that parents can make up. They can encourage kids to make up their own stories too. You’d be surprised what silly stories young kids can come up with about life on the farm!
Older kids may find this app a bit frustrating because there’s not a defined path to follow. However, for toddlers and preschoolers, the app will be a lot of fun. There’s something going on with nearly every image in the app, so almost every tap will be rewarded. For kids who need some guidance, a key directs them to find some of the fun actions in each scene. It’s noisy, it’s busy, and it’ll probably drive parents crazy, which means little kids will love it.
Tiny Farm – Animals, Tractors and Adventures! comes at a standard price point for children’s apps. Without a defined game or focus, parents of older children may opt for a different app, but those looking for a fun and quality app for younger children should give it a try.
It’s easy for kids to navigate the app and discover new adventures. On the main screen, there are a few distractions through links to social media and pictures of the developer’s other apps. However, they’re all protected by a parental lock and are quickly forgotten once kids step onto the farm.
