Arthur’s Big App Review

App Info

Price: $0.99

Overview

School’s out in Elmwood City and it’s time for Arthur and his friends to have some fun. In Arthur’s Big App they’re traveling around town to make smoothies, visit the library, enjoy some music, and even play a game of freeze tag and they’re inviting kids to join in on the fun. As kids play the four mini games found in Arthur’s app, they earn stars and advance in level. They’ll also unlock favorite characters from the game as they play, giving them a chance to interact with Arthur and all of his friends.

Features include:

  • 4 mini games
  • Multiple levels
  • Unlock favorite Arthur characters
  • Track performance

Quality

While simple, Arthur’s Big App doesn’t lack quality. It’s laid out nicely and easy for kids to navigate. Kids will recognize the same characters they see on the cartoon, but they must unlock them one by one as they play the different mini games. The instructions for the games are all clear and they are all easy to play and come accompanied by fun background music.

Education

This app is not being rated for education.

Entertainment

The app contains four different mini games: smoothie making, music playing, freeze tag, and a visit to the library. Each of these games has multiple levels, but the level of difficulty isn’t very high. While kids will enjoy playing the games, it will have more to do with trying to unlock the characters (there are 50 characters unlock) rather than just having fun with the game. The games themselves are also designed for a child younger than the target audience for the app.

Value

While comparable in price to similar apps, parents may wish they got a little more for the price. Instead of having multiple levels to each mini game, the app would be stronger if it had even more mini games or let kids choose which mini game to play rather than presenting the games in sequence.

Child Friendliness

While the developers state that the app is designed for children ages 6-8, it feels more like an app designed for younger children. Preschoolers can easily play all of the games contained within the app. Kids may also find them frustrated by not being able to choose the specific game they play and by the fact that they must unlock each character one at a time. It may take awhile to access Buster, Francine, and some of their other favorites.
