How To Block a Caller on Your iPhone

back of iPhone

If you’ve ever listed an item for sale on Craigslist using your telephone number as a point of contact, you know that your iPhone can quickly blow up with unwanted calls, even long after the sale has been finalized. Today we’re going to show you how to block callers on your iPhone so that you never have to deal with nuisance calls again.

Why would you want to block a caller?

Some people just can’t take a hint. Telemarketers usually top the list of people who quickly become bothersome, but they’re not alone. If you’ve recently gotten a new iPhone number, you’ve also inherited someone’s old number, which also means you’ve inadvertently befriended all their friends who were never told of the number change. That can be a real pain.

Whether you’re being harassed by someone you’d rather not deal with, bombarded with telemarketing calls or bothered by someone who shouldn’t have your number, you put an end to your misery by blocking their number.

How to block a caller on your iPhone

Unlike your now outdated landline, it doesn’t take much work to block a caller on your iPhone.

Block a known caller

If there’s someone in your address book that you’d like to block, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Open Phone
  3. Tap Blocked
  4. Click Add New

Now just scroll through your list of contacts and add the offending party.

Block an unknown caller

For telemarketers and others not in your Contacts, here’s what to do.

  1. Open your Phone app
  2. Click over to Recents
  3. Look for the number in question and tap the “i” next to their number
  4. Scroll to the bottom and select Block This Caller

Be aware that blocking a contact’s call will also prevent them from messaging you as well.
