Avokiddo is known for their highly engaging and colorful apps and DNA Play is no different. The visuals and interactive illustrations included in this app are superb as are the lively sound effects that accompany each image. The developers have done an excellent job creating a user interface that is easy to use, highly interactive and encourages children to explore and create fun monsters while learning a bit about how DNA works. Very well done!
While children aren’t going to be learning the science and technical terms behind DNA, they will be getting a hands on lesson of how it works. With each new creature they create, they will be beginning with a bit of a blank slate. By attaching the missing pieces to each gene, they will see their creature transform before their eyes. Everything from body shape, color, size, head, eyes, mouth, feet, and hands are included. As children re-position each gene they see their creature change color, shape, and size which is a great way to illustrate how genes are directly related to how each of us look.
DNA Play is designed to be a fun and interactive way to introduce children to the concept of DNA. It doesn’t include any verbal explanation which is part of the appeal, but it does offer teachers a way to create a fun and hands on learning experience when used in the classroom. Overall, the developers have done an incredible job with this app and it’s one that kids of all ages are going to love.
There is no doubt that children are going to get a ton of playing time and entertainment from this app. The fun sound effects, interesting creatures, and all the different combinations of options will keep children coming back for more. In addition to creating the fun creatures, children have the chance to interact with their creature as fun items, accessories, toys, animals, and foods appear on the screen. As the creature takes on a life of its own it might dance a jig, ride a skateboard or scream when it sees a spider pop up. The joy and adventure comes with not knowing exactly what you are going to get!
Priced at just under three dollars this app is a great value! With so many options for colors, shapes, sizes, eyes, feet, hands etc. this app has literally thousands of combinations to create and will keep children busy for hours. The fun sounds and accessories that pop up offer loads of entertainment for a price that won’t break the bank.
The developers have done a nice job overall of keeping this app easy and safe for children to use. The user interface is quite intuitive and allows children to tap and play their way through the app by dragging the various shapes into place for each gene. As they interact with each creature they can also tap and drag items around for an easy and fun way to play making it easy for children of all ages.
