Splash Math 3rd Grade HD is an interactive workbook with 16 chapters covering math topics found in the Common Core Standards for third graders. Topics such as metric measurement, place values into the ten thousands, decimals and fractions are just a few.
Kids will not only be having fun, but they will also be improving their math abilities. The app is for improving or reinforcing already learned math skills, not for introducing new ones. It is assumed that kids have been introduced to these concepts prior to playing the app.
Worksheets are not timed in this aquarium themed app which is bound to provide the user with a stress free environment to enjoy. Adding to the fun are games which can be played between sessions. The user can play with the creatures they have earned and learn facts about them, too. The app interface is easy to use, but may require some set up by an adult prior to starting.
With the ability to accommodate up to five users, it makes Splash Math idea for schools or families. Each user has their own workbook, which can be customized to meet their needs, and their own aquarium. Difficulty of levels can be determined by the user’s performance or by unlocking the levels and manually set them. Weekly e-mail reports, a report card and activity log are available, for each user, for tracking the user’s progress.
If needed, while working on worksheets, an easy to use scratch pad is available. Using their finger the user can write in this area as you would on a sheet of paper.
An additional apps button is located and designed in such a manner it is likely to draw the user’s attention. A suggestion would be for the developer to move the button to the information menu and change the appearance of it.
Additional Splash Math 3rd Grade versions are available in iTunes; iPhone Full and Lite, and HD Lite. The lite version is a great way to take the app for a test drive before investing almost $10 into an app.
