Autism Games 4 – Matching App Review
Autism Games 4 Matching offers a series of matching activities for kids with autism. Designed by a professional, the app is focused on helping kids with autism learn basic information, such as letters, numbers, shape and color recognition, and common words. This app is designed largely to be used by adults with kids, rather than having kids use it on their own.
- Themed categories
- 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and sequence matching
- Instructions for adults
- Non-flashy interface
One of the first things you may notice about the app is that it’s designed with a lot of white space. Also, the app has been designed more for adults to use with children than for children to use on their own. It has a more formal interface with a lot of teacher-facing or professional-facing instructions. The activities themselves are very simple, but they do offer demonstrations where necessary. One thing the app lacks is the ability to get back to the main screen while in a matching game.
Kids can play a series of matching games within the app. They can choose from five different categories: shapes, letters, words, numbers, and pictures. Within each category are additional options, such as 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 matching and sequencing activities (for letters and numbers). The app would benefit from audio instructions or captions for the different objects kids can match. However, since this app is largely designed to be used with an adult, the adult can provide that audio.
This app is not being rated for entertainment.
The app is fairly simple. It also seems a bit expensive for what it offers. However, professionals and parents may find it appropriate for certain kids with autism.
On the opening screen and matching games screen, kids can click on the developer’s icon which gives them access to the developer’s website. Otherwise, the app is free from ads and other content designed to take kids’ attention away from it.
