Benny Bones is one of the featured apps in our Human Anatomy Apps for Kids post that teaches children all about the skeletal system. By teaching children the names of the bones and giving them a chance to piece the skeleton back together again, this app makes learning anatomy fun. Easy to use and easy to understand, this app is great for children of all ages.

Features include:

  • 3 Levels
  • 17 Bones to learn
  • Easy to use interface

Benny Bones is a cute anatomy app with bright colors and a easy to use interface that is great for young children to play. The bright blue background and cartoon skeleton are the only simple illustrations that are included, however they are just enough to keep children engaged as they play. The developers have also included simple background music and narration for each of the activities that helps children not only see the names of each bone, but hear it as well. Overall, Benny Bones is a simple, yet good quality app for children.

Benny Bones is a great app to introduce children to the skeletal system and is a fun way to learn 17 of the 200+ bones in the body. The app is designed with three different levels for children to utilize as they learn. Level one allows children to review the various labeled bones on Benny the skeleton, level two is a skeleton puzzle that children can piece back together, and level three allows players to label the various bones. With three ways to play and learn that increase in difficulty as well as the narration in each level, children have a variety of ways to practice what they have learned.

What I really liked about this app is that the developers included many of the true, technical names for the bones. For instance, instead of using ‘jaw’, the developers have used the anatomical name ‘mandible’. Using the true anatomical names for the bones allows children to also work on their reading and vocabulary skills as they move through each level.

While this app is primarily aimed at teaching children the names of bones in the body, it can be fun too. Not only does level two offer a puzzle for children to piece back together, but both level two and three offer a timed challenge children to use to place or label as many bones as possible. This is an option that can be adjusted in the settings area in the app.

While Benny Bones doesn’t have a dedicated entertainment activity, it still includes enough to keep children engaged as they learn.

Priced at just under two dollars, this app is priced fairly well. With three levels, narration throughout, a timer option, and 17 bones included, children will have several opportunities to learn many technical names of bones in the body. For children who are especially interested in the intricacies in the body, this one is a great way to introduce them the skeletal system.

Child Friendliness

Easy to use and safe too, Benny Bones does not include any social media links, advertisements, or in app purchases. Parents can also rest assured knowing that there is not a ton of instruction necessary as the user interface is very intuitive and easy to use. Children will naturally know what to do and will learn a ton as they tap and touch the bones in each level.

Benny Bones is a fun, introductory app to the skeletal system and will teach children the names and locations of 17 bones in the body. Simple, educational, and fun.
