Bogga Jewel App Review
Bogga Jewel, the latest member of the Bogga Tap series, gives kids a chance to go fishing in the ocean. This fun game has kids use three fishing lines to pick up boots and other objects from the water. As they do, they will discover lots of shiny treasures. Bogga Jewel has a simple design, but it’s packed with fun for kids.
- Play as a boy or girl
- Fish for jewels
- Unlock fun prizes
- Build fine-motor and counting skills
When kids first open the app, they have the option to hit the play button or open the jewelry box. At first, the items in the jewelry box will be locked, but kids can unlock them by pulling up boots and other items in the game. Kids get to choose whether to play the game as a boy or girl. Both characters’ points are grouped in the game, so kids can switch back and forth without losing progress. When kids first play the game, they’re shown a simple tutorial. From there, it’s up to them to press the arrows and move to the proper fishing line. The game runs smoothly and it’s easy for kids to figure out what they do as they play.
The educational components of the app are fairly subtle. As kids cach boots, a counter advances at the bottom of the screen. This helps reinforce counting skills. That counter also appears at the end of each round. In addition to building counting skills, kids can learn about concepts such as recycling. They get to place the boots they catch in a recycling machine and earn a sticker for a job well done. Other activities within the app help kids build color recognition and fine motor skills.
Most of the app involves moving the arrows to catch the boots on the correct line. As kids do, they may also collect other random objects. Hidden in those bags of seaweed and piles of driftwood are gems. Those gems are collected to unlock rings, crowns, and other pieces of jewelry. Kids can then arrange the gems on the jewelry any way they like. The app also has other activities. For example, kids may catch mystery boxes or place boots in the recycling machine.
Given the simplicity of the app and the fact that its educational value is subtle, the app may be priced higher than what the content is actually worth. It may appeal more to little kids who like fishing or who like the idea of collecting jewels.
