Would you love for your kids to learn a second language, but you aren’t sure where to start? Or even, perhaps master their own first language? The Gus on the Go series for iPad is a wonderful learning tool that can help you accomplish teaching your child a lot of vocabulary from a spoken language. I have to say – I really loved the Gus on the Go: Spanish app – and think that you could definitely learn with this method.
After just going through the lessons quickly, I was able to answer the questions correctly when quizzed – I am sure that this would depend on your memory skills as well. So, not only will this app help your children learn the main vocabulary of a spoken language – I think it could also improve their memory skills and word association. And, I thought that the lessons were a lot of fun!
The main screen of the app is presented as a country map of Mexico – Gus, the owl, is headed to Mexico and is inviting you to come along and explore the Spanish language with him. From here, you may choose a city destination on the map and be taken to a small city map with roads leading to various unlocked levels…as you complete vocabulary lesson reviews beginning with the first lesson you will be able to unlock exciting new levels and games. This app is presented as a series of fun and highly interactive lessons with engaging lesson reviews at the end of each section.
The information is presented by a native Spanish speaker to ensure proper pronunciation. Overall, the app features 10 interactive vocabulary lessons with nearly 90 vocabulary words. The Spanish vocabulary categories include: animals, food, clothes, transportation, parts of the body, numbers, shapes, and colors.
I really enjoyed the Gus on the Go: Spanish app. I thought that the app was an excellent learning tool and I could definitely see learning Spanish vocabulary using this app. One feature that I really thought was great was how the vocabulary kept building – as you progress through the app and take quizzes – you will add categories and be quizzed on what you just learned and what you have learned in the prior sections to encourage vocabulary retention. If you are looking for an app to help teach your child a language – I would highly recommend the Gus on the Go series!
