Lego Duplo Jams is a universal app with a lively and colorful play area for toddlers and preschoolers.

Children can choose from six different scenes, each set to different music.

  • Sort Out the Blues is set in outer space. The child controls the rocket speed by tapping the screen.
  • Brick Racer is a race car, which is controlled by tapping on the car.
Barnyard Serenade is a simple match game set in a barnyard, zoo, and the ocean.
  • Stick Together scene is a train moving along the track. The child helps the conductor keep the train moving my repairing or touching things along the track.
  • Build with Letters is alphabet fun in various settings.
  • Bedtime mode is sheep jumping over the moon. The child can control their speed by which blocks the user touches.

Within each of the scenes, except the bedtime mode, you can record sounds for three objects. My kids like being able to change the recordings.

The app takes some playing around to figure out what is supposed to be happening in each scene. This is especially true for the Lego blocks that you are rewarded with. It appears that they are meant to build something specific.

I really liked that the children could tap all over the scenes to discover all kinds of the hidden things; such as, touching the rainbow makes it change colors or touching the planets makes them explode into many planets. There is quite a bit to do in each scene. I think you could discover something new each time you go through it. The music, colors and graphics are terrific and really add to the fun environment.

Areas of improvement: Being this is an app for toddlers and preschoolers, the screens should transition slower to allow the children more time to investigate. For example: In the barnyard, after you’ve completed the match game, there is not much time given to touch the objects or to build with the blocks you are rewarded with.

Bottom-line: Great app for toddlers and preschoolers. Older kids may have fun exploring, too. I know I did! A great starter app for children ages 2-5 who are just beginning to use a touchscreen.
