Safari Tales App Review
It’s time to head on a jungle safari, learn about the animals within the jungle, and build early literacy skills all at the same time. Safari Tales allows kids to guide an animal around the jungle and discover facts about that animal along the way. After playing with an animal, kids are also treated to a special safari tale.
- Learn about jungle animals
- Read interactive stories
- Travel through the jungle
- Play fun games
- Earn stickers and awards
Safari Tales has the potential to be a great app for kids, but unfortunately it suffers in the quality department. It is a bit difficult to figure out how to enter the jungle (not all animals on the list allow access). Once inside the jungle, kids move the animals using a circular controller that is difficult to maneuver and can cause kids to feel a bit discombobulated. The meerkat guide does offer a bit of help, but it’s often after kids have reached the point of frustration or when they’re doing fine and don’t need help at all. There are bits of quality in the app, however. For example, from the moment kids open the app, they know they’re in the jungle because of the awesome background music. The animated animals are also created with a high quality.
This app is designed to help kids learn about jungle animals and build literacy skills. After playing with an animal, kids unlock a special safari tale that tells the story of their animal in the jungle. The story is not narrated, but kids can tap on select words (highlighted in orange) to view synonyms. While exploring the jungle, kids can also tap on the meerkat and use the question wheel to form questions and gain information about animals.
There are a lot of fun activities hidden within the app. Some of them, such as the ability to paint the animal and teach it to do tricks, are easy to find. Others require following a path using the testy controller. If kids can figure out how to navigate through the jungle, they can unlock new animals, find the animal jam band, and earn stickers and other rewards.
This app has a lot to offer for the price. Unfortunately, the quality issues lower its price. If kids can learn how to navigate the app without becoming frustrated, it may be worth a download, particularly because it introduces them to concepts such as synonyms and facts about jungle animals.
On the main screen of the app, kids will see icons for a parent corner and more apps from the developer. These sections are protected by a parental lock.
