Barefoot World Atlas enables children to explore the world using a beautiful 3D interactive globe. The app provides a broad overview of the world. Children can learn about each of the regions, flags of each country, temperature, current time, weather conditions, land area and population; animals such as a dugong, brown bear, tomato frog; objects such as a pumpjack or molue; and much, much more.

You quickly find yourself immersed into the worlds you are exploring. Music changes as your location does and is music you would imagine hearing in that area of the world. The colors and quality of the graphics and photos make it all feel very real.

Navigating through the app is so smooth you don’t really think of about it. You just want to keep touching the objects and exploring the menus. One can view by region, flags, features (items such as dugong, pumpjack or slit drum) and favorites, or simply spin the globe. (You may find yourself spinning the globe multiple times, because it is so much fun and just because you can!) Zooming in or out provides another great way for children to travel around the globe.

Narration is available throughout the app whether viewing information about a country or an animal. Multiple language options are available and can be found in the device settings for this app.

When viewing the information for a region, click on the temperature, land area and population, highest point, transportation per 1000 people, etc., and receive listings of highest to lowest of the applicable information. Live data for the countries is provided by Wolfram|Alpha.

Barefoot World Atlas does not contain in-app purchases, social media or ads; the external links are tucked away in locations where kids are not likely to find them.

Due to the fabulous graphics, pictures, etc., this app is a very large file size. Barefoot World Atlas is a universal app. While the app does have a large amount of information and terrific graphics, I think it needs to be a more manageable file size. That being said, it would be nice to see additional information included in future updates. Without a smaller file size and additional information this app may not be one that users keep on their devices for an extended period of time.

Bottom line

Children and adults of all ages will enjoy exploring the world using this 3D interactive globe. Be aware that Barefoot World Atlas is an extremely large download.
