Closing Apps on iPhone 6

How To Close Apps on the iPhone 6

Close An Unresponsive App

Generally, there’s no need to force an app to close unless it’s unresponsive. When you press the Home button two times quickly, the recently used apps that appear aren’t open. If you have an app on your iPhone 6 that doesn’t seem to be working and is hung up and unresponsive you can force the app to close by following three easy steps:

  • Press the Home button two times quickly. You’ll see small previews of your recently used apps.
  • Swipe left to find the app you want to close.

How to Quit Multiple Apps At Once On Your iPhone

Ok, so this is more of a trick than anything else. Above, we explained how to close a single app. You double click the home button and then flick up the app you want to close. Well, on that home screen you can see three apps on the screen (see above image). Guess what you have to do to close up to three apps at once?

  1. Double-click the Home button. You’ll see small previews of your recently used apps.
  2. Close up to three apps by touching each one with a finger and flicking them all up at the same time.

Closing Apps on Older iPhones

If your phone has iOS 6 or earlier, press the home button twice. A row of apps will show at the bottom of the screen (these are apps running in the background). Hold finger on the app you want to close. It will begin to jiggle. Tap the red “-” sign on all the apps you wish to stop running. When you’re done, press the home button again and it will set everything.

If your phone is on iOS 7, press the home button twice. The apps running in the background will appear in the center of the screen. Slide each preview screen up and off the screen to close the desired apps. When you’re done, press the home button again.

Closing Some Apps Preserves Battery Life on iPhone 6

The iPhone 6 has a bigger battery than older model phones, so this shouldn’t be as much of an issues these days. However, it is always good to keep battery use efficient so here are some basic steps to managing battery life on your iPhone 6.

  • Identify what is draining the battery. Your iPhone 6 shows you which apps use the most power. Go to Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage. Close the applications or delete any that are not needed.
  • Turn off location-tracking apps. While these apps are great, working together they add up to lots of battery usage. Tracking each move you make is one of the phone’s biggest battery drainers. To monitor this feature, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.  Apple users can still leave on functions like Find My iPhone from this menu. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Share My Location, to turn off another battery draining feature. Just turn it back on when you want to share your current location through messages. You can also turn off your Wi-Fi from the Settings menu, which can save battery life when you aren’t using your phone.
  • Manage notifications. Notification Center easily by pulling down the menu from the top of the screen and customizing your ‘Today’ view. You can select which widgets you want to turn off by tapping the “Edit” menu. You can also go into Settings > Notifications and scroll through to turn off notifications from apps.
  • Turn off Handoff. Handoff helps Apple users move from device to device. If you are not planning on multitasking between devices, turn off this by going to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps.
  • Stop fetching. The fetching function pushes email notifications to your home screen. Turn off this feature by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data.
  • Turn Down Brightness. Other battery saving tips include turning down the brightness on your iPhone 6 by going to Settings > Wallpapers & Brightness.
