We’ve all been there. You get the video all set for the little ones to keep them entertained before hitting the road. Inevitably, you don’t get down the block before something shiny and bright has those little fingers tapping away at the screen. Video paused, skipped to the end or gone, volume cranked you now hear “Fix it, Mamma” from the backseat. As wise captains of the minivan we know its eyes front, hands on the wheel (wink, wink) and we can’t always “fix it” right now.
LittleFingers Video Player has come to our rescue as a kid friendly media player that allows us to lock the player and prevent unintended interaction as our little ones watch their favorite movies or shows. Created by a Dad for his Darling Daughter, Andy knew exactly what we’d need.
LittleFingers is a kid friendly media player that allows you to lock the playback screen while your little ones watch their favorite videos. Watch content from your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch’s video library, camera roll, or content loaded directly into LittleFingers from iTunes!
And its simple to use. There’s even a short reel to walk you through the set-up. The first step is to browse your media. It automatically places your library on the home screen. I loved that it included my camera roll so I can set up Pool Time at Grandpa’s and not just that one favorite show over and over and over… Once your video is playing simply tap the lock icon in the lower right and you’re off and running. To unlock use a finger swiping code to get the controls back.
Settings allows your to change your unlock code, set up display and maybe repeat the video. You can also hide protected videos so Mommy’s shows aren’t part of the cue (Not that they’d choose Downton Abby anyway)
LittleFingers won’t prevent stopping playback when the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch’s home button is pressed — it only prevents accidental screen taps from affecting video playback. Its a great tool for tiny ones but skillful older tots will still maintain their ability to navigate exactly where they want to be. As a possible help it would be nice if the video automatically started where it left off when the app is accessed again.
Version 1 is just the beginning for this great app. Over the course of the next year more really cool features will be added to help keep our kids entertained. To watch for updates, you can check them out on Twitter at @LittleFingersVP, or Facebook. Thanks to Andy, LittleFingers could just save our sanity while we run those last minutes errands before waiting in the parent pickup line at the school.
